How Often Should I Get a Massage?

As soon as guests come out after their first Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage session, they’re asking me when they can come back.

The truth is that the answer to that question is not only a little different for everyone, but it also will change throughout your journey as a massage client.

Journey? Huh?

YES! Massage therapy is a journey towards your optimal wellness. Which is a journey you should always be on!

The Beginning

If you’re brand new to massage therapy or have just never had regular massage work, your first several sessions will be spent unwinding tension and stress that’s accumulated in the body over time.

Following your consultation and your first massage session, your massage therapist will be able to create a short term (usually 4-8 weeks) personalized treatment plan including regularly scheduled massages and self-care homework in between your sessions.

At the end of your treatment plan, the therapist will reassess and develop a new treatment plan based on your improvement.

Post-Plan Maintenance

Once your initial treatment goal is met , you’ll move into the maintenance stage of your massage journey.

Here’s my general recommendations based on physical activity/stress/pain of each individual:

  • Healthy, No Injuries, Low Physical/Emotional Stress = 1x Every 4-6 weeks

  • Active, Moderate Stress/Pain = 1x Every 2-3 Weeks

  • Professional Athlete, Chronic Pain/ Stress = 1-2x Weekly

It’s always important to remember that every body is differently and you’re massage therapist will work with you to create the perfect maintenance schedule for your needs.
